All My Friends Are in a Relationship And I am Single – What To Do?

Girl standing alone

There comes a time in everybody’s lives where they develop an interest in the opposite gender.

A certain curiosity may have always been present but once you reach a certain age, this curiosity often goes into overdrive and crosses the line into new territory. Of course, there are variations between each of us in terms of when this occurs and how we react to it.

You may be in a situation where you don’t see what all the fuss is about; you can’t imagine fawning over a guy who you seem to have nothing in common with and won’t remember in a few years. Or you may find that you too are caught up in the excitement along with your friends, but as you develop crushes on a few choice member of male population you lack the confidence to do anything about it.

In both cases, you may feel as though you are missing out, which is only worsened by all your friends pairing up around you so that you’re left being the third, fifth, seventh etc. wheel.

Don’t worry, this situation is not as bad as it seems! Here are some things to keep in mind.

1. Being single can be fun

Being single is nowhere near as miserable as it is depicted in today’s media and popular culture.

Of course it is nice to be able to share a special connection with another person, but it’s also great to be able to spend time alone focusing on yourself.

This is especially true if you are still a young adult; there are so many things for you to explore within yourself, adding another person into the equation will just confuse things!

It can be hard if your friends are inseparable from their current boyfriends so no one is available to hang out with, but you can always strike out on your own. If you are able to get comfortable going places and doing things alone at this point in your life, it’ll serve you well later when independence is unavoidable.

2. You can always make friends with guys

If you are not interested in dating, concentrate on being friends with the guys you know.

You might know them from class or just from your social circles, but simply being platonic friends will give you an insight into their world and how they operate, without the danger of being too involved or emotionally attached.

It is often observed that guys and gals handle situations and react to certain things very differently, so it can be useful to have a male friend you can go to with a problem to get a different outlook on it.

Also, you may get tired of drama you are experiencing with a group of girls, so hanging with some guys may provide the perfect break from that, as long as they aren’t experiencing any drama themselves!

3. There is nothing wrong in waiting until you are ready

Finally, remember that finding yourself in this situation is completely normal and nothing to be worried about.

Guys are not the be all and end all of your existence and soon enough, your friends will realize this too.

Although you may feel as though you are missing out on numerous things, from the simple experience of having a boyfriend and going on dates to the more intimate side of relationships, just remember that there is no shame in waiting until you’re ready or until you find someone special.

You may be single now but in a few months or a few years you could be with someone who makes you feel special and cherished and who you’ll look back on with fondness.

In the long run, you’ll thank yourself for making that choice.
